Culture and creativity are increasingly important as significant social phenomena, even beyond the traditional cultural sectors. Cultural and creative competence can work as a resource for product and service development as well as generating value in regional development, urban planning and rural development.

The cross-disciplinary network CROCUS focuses on cultural and creative industries aiming to create a dynamic and living environment that strengthens both research and education at Lund University Campus Helsingborg. We understand cultural and creative industries as artistic, cultural and creative fields in a broad sense: art, theatre and literature but also fashion, design and architecture. We also include activities within the green industries, such as land art and food crafts. Questions concerning design, quality of life and experiences span both urban and rural environments.  

Cultural and creative activities are often embedded in complex networks of public, private and civil actors and resources, which creates specific conditions for those who are active within these areas. Places and physical resources also set terms and prerequisites, at the same time as they are changed through cultural and creative activities. Focusing on two key areas –cultural spaces and terms of creativity – we want to generate new knowledge on the dynamics within, conditions for, and effects of cultural and creative activities and forms of expression of cultural and creative activities on the local, regional and international levels.  

Our goal is to establish a complete environment for research and education that consolidates interdisciplinary collaborations within the profile area, and meets the need for future education. This is done on three levels: developing the range of first and second cycle courses and programmes, developing commissioned education, establishing a graduate school and constructing a platform for  interdisciplinary research. 

Researchers from the Faculty of Social Sciences (the Department of Service Management and Service Studies and the Department of Strategic Communication), Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology (Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences) and the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts participate in the network.

Register is open for CROCUS Conference  - BEYOND SITE/SIGHT Cultural Spaces and the Conditions of Creativity

On 12-14 June 2024 the cross-disciplinary network CROCUS is inviting you to an international conference gathering keynote speakers, round tables, research presentations, art exhibitions and experimentation around the theme of cultural spaces and the conditions of creativity.
During the conference we will explore policies, digital and physical places and platforms for culture and creativity, as well as place making, performance and play.
