Challenges with sustainable food consumption - based on four new research studies

Maria Fuentes och Emma Samsioe

Is it possible to consume food in a sustainable way? This issue was discussed by researchers Maria Fuentes and Emma Samsioe during a lunch lecture at the Regional Museum in Kristianstad. Based on three ongoing research projects in which they participated, they shared the challenges that exist today with sustainable food consumption.

During the lecture, they presented four sub-studies, which are part of three different research projects:

  • Vegetarian consumption
  • Local food nodes
  • Meal box schemes
  • Food consumption in times of crisis

Maria Fuentes and Emma Samsioe discussed the challenges for sustainable consumption in relation to the complexity of households and the need to learn new things. They summed up by saying that it is possible to consume in a sustainable way but:

  • Information to consumers is not enough
  • It requires commitment from different actors
  • It requires that we are prepared to change our habits

The lecture was arranged by the Regional Museum in Kristianstad in collaboration with Kristianstad's UN association, the public was invited to listen.
