A new research project will study what e-commerce managers do at work

The ambition of the project is to help retailers to better understand how they can support the role of e-commerce managers in their own organization.

- There is a lack of research concerning what e-commerce managers do at work. At the same time, their professional role has become increasingly important for today's retail companies. Our aim in this project is to map out and explore e-commerce mangers work practices, says Christian Fuentes.

Central questions involve: What do e-commerce mangers do? What competencies do they need to develop? What does their relationships at work look like? What is the position of e-commerce managers in organizations today? These are some of the questions that the research team will address.

The ambition of the project is to also help retailers to better understand how they can support the role of e-commerce managers in their own organization and design competence profiles that can be used in recruitment processes.

The project is a collaboration between Lund University and the University of Borås and the team consist of Christian Fuentes, Emma Samsioe, Patrik Stoopendahl and Gabriella Wulff

- Thanks to the research team's already established contacts with the industry, it has been relatively easy to get several of the large retail organizations in Sweden involved in the project, says Christian Fuentes.

Among the companies that will participate in interviewing and shadowing observations of their e-commerce managers are Indiska, NetonNet, Stadium, Hyber, and Lindex.

The project has received funding from The Swedish Retail and Wholesale Council.
