The trip went to Helsingborg's twin town Pärnu in Estonia, with a stop in the capital Tallinn - a city on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Together with lecturers Jan-Henrik Nilsson, Josefine Östrup Backe and Christer Eldh, the group travelled by ferry from Stockholm to Tallinn and then on to Pärnu.
The purpose of the excursion was to study small-scale destinations with a focus on sustainable tourism and local destination development. The programme included several study visits and experiential elements. In Pärnu, the students participated in a city tour, visits to spa hotels and meetings with local actors in marketing and destination development. One of the highlights was the visit to Soomaa National Park, where students had the opportunity to paddle in traditional dugout canoes - a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Before travelling home, a much appreciated stop was made at Maria Farm, where the students enjoyed a traditional Estonian evening with local dishes, music and dancing.
The excursion offered new perspectives, valuable knowledge and, not least, new friendships - a week that is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression on all students!
