Alexandra Rosu, Application Consultant at Pagero

What did you do before you started studying the Master’s programme in Service Management?

I got my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Service from Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova. After that, my background consists of a mix between internships and a few years of experience in the hospitality industry.

Why did you choose Sweden and Campus Helsingborg?

My reasoning behind it was definitely the academic reputation. Being an international student and going abroad was the ideal opportunity to study while immersing into a completely new culture, and after considering a variety of options in different countries I eventually sent my application to Lund University. It immediately felt like the right decision, and the programme description only strengthened my interest.

What do you think about the teaching method?

I absolutely loved it - a mix between independent study and group work, guided by a fantastic faculty. Feedback on my assignments was constructive and I was always comfortable discussing the progress on my writing and research skills.

What was the best thing about the programme?

The incredible people I got to collaborate with, both my professors and classmates, were probably the best bit of the programme. I was part of an international class of cca 30 different nationalities, and it was especially inspiring to be in the same room, engaging in thought-provoking discussion and striving for academic success together.

What was your next step and what are you currently working with?

I decided to make the most out of being here and I read an intensive course for Swedish to improve my language skills. Local language proficiency was essential to my integration and an effective communication. By the time I completed the course, I considered switching focus area within service management. It was a daunting idea at first, but it proved to be worth the effort. After graduation, my first and current workplace is a SaaS company that develops a cloud-based solution enabling electronic exchange of business documents. Digital transformation and e-invoicing is a trend with remarkable growth worldwide and I believe this industry can provide numerous career advancement opportunities.

What is the biggest challenge in your current position?

A common challenge of my generation is developing the right transferable skills in order to stay employable. We live in an ever-changing world, and I believe adaptability is a critical skill in my current position as application consultant as well. Navigating rapidly changing requirements and regulations, showing willingness to stay up-to date, and continuously learning are all crucial to my career development.

What advice would you give to new students?

My time at Lund University was indubitably wonderful, so enjoy the time spent on campus, dare to ask questions, and take advantage when an opportunity present itself. Remember to also show consideration and support each other, anxiety can affect anyone and our well-being is a priority. Anytime you feel overwhelmed due to an approaching deadline, keep in mind that you’ve already achieved so much by being part of the LU’s community.
