Summary, in Swedish
cultural activities and compares it to Nordic grant schemes and the funding of arts and culture at the European Union level. The aim of the chapter is to compare the orientation of funding at the various levels. Speciically, the chapter describes and discusses differences and similarities in the goals for, and scope and conditions of, public funding at the three levels. The questions guiding the chapter are as follows: What monetary resources are available for independent arts and culture in Sweden from national, Nordic and European Union sources? Moreover, what are the conditions of access to such resources, beyond those adhering to artistic freedom of expression and diversity, which are central to Swedish and Nordic cultural policy? In addition, the chapter discusses the concept of Nordic added value and its signiicance in the ield of arts and culture. Given the Nordic cultural policy tradition, the concept seems out of place, and therefore its operationalisation in steering documents at the Nordic level is also explored in the chapter. This investigation can only give a irst insight into these complex matters, and the chapter ends with conclusions and suggestions for further research.
