Sustainability seminar: Diana Ivanova and Marta Baltruszewicz
Ivanova and Baltruszweicz will share some of their work on the critical intersection of household consumption, sustainability, and health. Their research sheds light on how our everyday choices impact the planet and well-being. Ivanova's work quantifies the environmental footprint of household consumption, focusing on energy use , greenhouse gas emissions, and social inequality. By exploring how we can align our consumption patterns with the limits of our planet, she aims to ensure that human needs are met without compromising ecological integrity. Baltruszewicz complements this with an examination of the relationship between household energy use and well-being outcomes in the UK, revealing that transportation—particularly air travel—plays a significant role in high-income households' energy footprints, however it does not contribute to achievement of high well-being. Together, they will discuss innovative strategies for promoting sustainable living, including socio-cultural and economic trends influencing consumption practices. The informal format will allow for engaging discussion and exchange of ideas between the visiting researchers and the department of service studies.
